Moms – the best leaders I know

On 21, Oct 2012 | In Uncategorized | By ReneeBlake

The first leader I knew was Mom.

Mostly, because she beleives: “there’s a time and place for everything.” She seems to instinctively know when to be direct and tough, and when to be silly and creative. And yes, she typically drives how and when that happens.

The ability to affect and be effected. Mom is the keeper of the family culture. She influences continuously.  Not for a quarter or for a year, it’s an every day thing filled with tiny moments and interactions. And she’s usually already thinking of the “next” big thing.

An impact that lasts forever.  Mom teaches accountability from the get-go, and reinforces transparency within the family. So we not only learn by achieving on our own, we also learn from the failure of others. Regardless, we always know where we stand.

Plan, manage and follow through.  Moms are the CEO’s, of the house, after all. They keep their eye on the ball, so that the important stuff rises to the top. Its simply survival techniques, really. To be a wife, mom, friend, and chauffeur, you have to be efficient and effective.

So, when you’re thinking of hiring your next leader; (a person who fosters a positive culture, an ability to make a big impact, and able to follow through effectively,) maybe you should start with all the Moms you know.
