Calling All Humans – A.I. needs you!

On 09, Jan 2020 | In Uncategorized | By ReneeBlake

While science fiction movies continue to show us Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the form of human-like robots with big personalities who save the world, we’re actually experiencing AI everyday in a regular way – anything from Siri, to search algorithms and even autonomous weapons. (Eeek!)

Man and robot meet and handshake. Concept of the future interaction with artificial intelligence. 3D rendering.

We’ve also been made to believe that AI is self sufficient, requires little to no human inputs, and will magically, on its own, save us bundles of money replacing (rather than redeploying) resources. However, despite a CFO’s best desires, AI will always require
a human touch – which by the way, is good for our customers, our business and keeps us honest.

Computers learning to be more human.

Steve Jobs declared that “technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, will yield us the result that makes our heart sing.” As computers behave more like us, people educated in languages, art, history, economics, ethics and philosophy, will be crucial in understanding and optimizing AI solutions. Think about it, developers of driverless cars are already confronting ethical challenges, such as, how a car should rank safety priorities of passengers and pedestrians in unavoidable accidents. In the future, in order to be successful, automated cars will even have to learn when to break the law, if it means saving lives.

Help us by learning what we can’t do.

“‘Amplified Intelligence is what we call this next-era AI”- Dr. Radhika Dirks, CEO, XLabsIn stated. Here forward, expect to see AI built to tackle difficult, more meaningful problems – created to help us do what we cannot, (as opposed to simply attempting to mimic us.) In the near future, ‘real time’ won’t be good enough. Society will need AI to move beyond real time. Imagine the possibilities when a meteorologist will truly be able to predict the weather before it happens.

AI has always stood on the shoulders of human intelligence. It may be far superior in its ability to predict our preferences or obey every traffic law, but it still has much to learn from our lovely human idiosynchrosies. As long as AI technology is used for us, and we continue to demand more from it – AI will always need our support.
